The Megalodon was added to Sea of Thieves permanently in the Shrouded Spoils update. Since then, it has brought great danger to pirates sailing the map. In this short guide, we’ll explain the types of Megalodons you can find and where you can find them.

We’ll make finding the Megalodon in the game a simple concept: You don’t find it; It finds you. Encountering a Megalodon is a random event that can happen anywhere in the open seas. None of the Megalodon’s five different variants are exclusive to one specific area. Instead, the likelihood of running into one depends on the rarity of each species.

To clarify most straightforwardly: none of the Megalodons have a specific location or area. You find them in open water, a considerable distance away from islands. If you approach an island while being chased by a Megalodon, the Megalodon will go away. If you stay on the island long enough, the Megalodon will not reappear when you leave.
