Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires does not allow you to have children during a scenario. To get a child in the game, you need to have won in Conquest Mode, and your spouse needs to have survived. If both of these are done, then you will be told about your child being born after the scenario is over.
You have to pick a Gender after being told you had a child, but remember that you cannot change this afterward. The game will then show you the grown-up version of the child. They can be edited just like custom Officers, except for some special attributes that you cannot edit.
- The officer's Weapon Proficiencies: This is inherited from one of the parents. Characters can change their Favorite Weapon, but they will keep their proficiencies.
- The officer's Ability Type: This is a randomly generated one. The Ability type decides the beginning stats, so the character being defensive, standard, or offensive is not up to you.

The child will inherit a mix of the parents' looks. You shouldn't worry about how they start off looking because this is changeable. You can customize the Officer's clothing, face shape, the color of hair, and everything else about them.
